Classic Marinara Sauce Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- 2 cans (28 ounces each) crushed tomatoes
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and garlic, sauté until they are soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add the oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir to combine.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the chopped parsley and simmer for another 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and use as needed for pasta dishes, as a pizza sauce, or a dipping sauce.
